Club History
The club was formed in 1973 and was originally called Dräger Normal Air due to Dräger supplying some of the original equipment. The name was changed to Morpeth Dolphins in the early 1980's when the club joined the BSAC. Contrary to belief, the name had nothing to do with 'Freddy' the dolphin who was unusually resident in Amble harbour at that time.
One of the founder members has his son carrying on in the club and some of the older members have been diving with this club since shortly after it’s formation.
The club has used various locations for training and storage of club equipment, these include the Morpeth Cricket Club and a past members private garage, but our most recent move was to the Amble Boat Company which coincided with the acquisition of RIB Emily in 1997 where we now house our club boats, and have our own workshop & compressor. Many thanks go to Mr. Nick Spurr, owner of the boatyard, for allowing us to use his premises and facilities.
Initial training is carried out at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Morpeth before progressing to open water.
